I used to believe that David Futrelle was performing a valuable service by tracking "The New Misogyny" online.
However, after investigating for myself the community that he purports to "cover," I have come to realize that Futrelle's blog, We Hunted The Mammoth, represents the form of bigotry known as demagoguery. Futrelle uses the same techniques as the classic demagogues of history, compiling highly selective anecdotal data to create a false portrait of a maligned group. We Hunted The Mammoth is to the Men's Rights Movement as Coontown is to African Americans. It is a distortion of reality designed to inflame prejudice and block a community from being heard.
The Men's Rights Movement advocates on a number of legitimate issues that disproportionately affect men and boys. All people, regardless of gender, deserve respect and fair treatment in our discourse. The MRM's best arguments should be heard with an open mind and vigorously debated on their merits.
The role of a demagogue is to prevent this kind of honest, productive conversation from ever taking place within his sphere of influence. This blog is intended to demonstrate that David Futrelle is functioning as a demagogue, and to pressure him to stop derailing useful conversation by appealing to our worst instincts and prejudices.

On this blog, I characterize We Hunted The Mammoth.
While I believe that my characterizations are supported by fairly chosen evidence and solid arguments, I encourage you to be skeptical. As a check against possible mischaracterization, I ask you to always read David Futrelle after reading me. For convenience, I include just below a feed of the latest five posts directly from We Hunted The Mammoth. For even more convenience, I manipulate the vertical length of the articles I publish here (using graphics) so that the Mammoth feed will usually be in your sightline when you finish an article. (If an article goes long, when you scroll up the We Hunted The Mammoth feed will be the first thing you see.)
On this blog I claim that David Futrelle routinely engages in the following demagogic techniques:
Biased Sample Fallacy: Cherry-picking obscure comments from Reddit and elsewhere to falsely generalize about the MRM
Mischaracterization: Falsely portraying the intent of the speaker
Villain-Claiming: Seeking villains outside the MRM to associate those villains with the targeted group
If I'm right, the feed below should prove it, because demagogues never let up. Please do me the favor of keeping my characterizations honest. Always read David Futrelle after reading me:
At least 14 people have been killed in a mass shooting at a center for people with developmental disabilities in San Bernardino, involving multiple shooters in combat gear and using assault weapons. Police say that two suspects have been killed, one man, one woman; a third suspect has been detained. As I write this it’s not clear who […]
So last night I was skimming through the official Church of Satan Info Pack, like you do, and I made an interesting discovery. Alongside such standard Satany things as, you know, eugenics, vengeance, naked-lady altars, it turns out that the official Church of Satan position on sex robots is: Yes, please! In fact, they’re so into […]
Here’s a question that would seem to have a simple, obvious answer: When is it ok to describe an alleged multiple murderer with a history of violence as a “gentle” man? The correct answer is of course “never,” but the New York Times managed to get this question wrong in a profile of alleged Planned Parenthood killer Robert […]
Over on the Ask The Red Pill subreddit, the regulars have come up with a new thing to hate about women: their alleged ignorance about penis size. One Red Piller by the name of rumham730 touched off a discussion on this important issue with a plaintive query: “Why the hell do so many girls think normal […]
Three women, so far, have come forward to accuse porn star James Deen of sexual assault. It seems exceedingly likely there will be more. After porn actress Stoya tweeted on Saturday that Deen had forcibly raped her, other women in the porn industry made clear that they’d been warning fellow performers about Deen’s allegedly predatory actions for years.
